Entry Seven: Tuesday, June 15, 2004
We are heading out. I am sitting in the van awaiting the arrival of Kayla's props. As for a weather report, the atmosphere is currently warm and muggy, and the clouds are low and thick, creating a barricade. I cannot feel anything but heat. The heat, unlike that of Seattle, soaks through everything, as it is mostly made of humidity. Before you even take one step into the outside air, you feel as if you have run a few miles. My dad took my sister and me to Starbucks Coffee this morning and surprisingly enough, I got a Chai Tea Crème Frappuccino. I am now in our caravan on our way to the University of Maryland, which is about half a block away from the volunteer fire station of Washington, D.C.
We just passed by the funniest sign I have seen thus far on the campus. It is a sign that reads "Lost? Call This Number," and the phone number is listed below. These people are not kidding; apparently, the college campus is incredibly large, even with the five or six buildings we have seen, which, according to the map, only constitute about one-sixth of its area! When you first enter the campus, there is a massive brick gate spanning over the road, and before long you find yourself journeying through a maze of college buildings beyond an "M" of flowers just after the entrance. I will be back. The Klondike group is up first thing (1000), but Kayla will have to wait until 1450 to begin her performance on Sacajawea. Signing out—Agent 520
Entry Eight: Tuesday, June 15, 2004
Presently, I am relaxing from this long day. Honestly, it has been long, but not as long as Saturday was! By the way, the Pistons are about to whip the Lakers. Anyhow, Midas' Touch was up first, as I said, so we got to the room early, prayed in a group, and watched as they went in, set up, performed, and relaxed for questions. Then came Kayla's performance, and everyone tensed up again. Both parties did exceptionally well, and all those who did not participate were extremely proud of them.
When we came back to the hotel, we swam for a few hours. Side note: yep! The Detroit Pistons won"100 to 84"tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers. To continue, we invited Devin, the lifeguard, to a late lunch/dinner. He ate with us before we rushed off to support the Schaeffer kids' performance this afternoon. On the way back to the hotel that tonight, we checked to see the Senior Division finalist sheets. I will relay the results tomorrow. Signing out—Agent 520
