The Graduating Class

Lisa Allen plays piano, reads, keeps a journal, creates scrapbooks, and e-mails friends. A two-year team captain for high school volleyball, she has earned the Varsity Coaches' Award, Pacific-9 Honorable Mention, and played on the Southwest Washington High School All-Star team. Last summer she began a lawn care business with her sixteen-year old brother, Paul. In addition to mowing lawns and pulling weeds, she does the bookkeeping for the business, which has helped prepare her to go into the field of business. Currently Lisa is a Running Start student at Centralia College and is named to the Honor Roll. She will attend Centralia for another year while completing her Associate of Arts degree before transferring to Whitworth College to complete a degree in business administration.

David Anderson has been a part of Academy Northwest since the first grade. During his home-schooling years, he participated in football at a local high school, was a page at the State Legislature, and worked at two part-time jobs. He will attend the University of Washington on academic scholarship beginning this summer to work towards a degree in economics. Then, David wishes to go to a Bible college in California to study to become a pastor.

Hiro Ando & His Parents

Hirotaka Ando is a dual-enrolled student in Academy Northwest and Redmond High School. While a student at Redmond, Hiro was very active in DECA and enjoyed starting his own company detailing cars. In addition to his interest in cars, especially "souped-up" ones, he enjoys baseball, soccer, and computers. This fall he will continue to explore his interest in computers and business and Bellevue Community College.

Marina Andresi was born in Romania and is one of 14 children. She chose to attend Academy Northwest because she could complete her high school diploma while working. The flexible schedule allowed her to organize her time so that she could do many things at once. One of Marina's dreams from childhood is to become a registered nurse, not just because the pay is good, but also because she can help a lot of people while demonstrating God's love for them.

Jamie ArellanoJamie & Her Parents has been a page in the Senate for two years, played high school soccer and softball, and coached her sister's soccer team for four years. She is the recipient of Most Inspirational award for high school softball. Other areas of interest include camping, snowmobiling, and hanging out with friends. Currently she is employed as office manager for Deccio Engineering, with plans to attend Cascadia Community College in the fall.

Joelle Arkin has enjoyed participating in her homeschool co-op drama class, working on the learning center yearbook committee, and taking a memorable trip to Washington, D.C. She also volunteers at the YMCA teaching children to swim and has participated in the annual Festival of Trees, a Mary Bridge Children's Hospital fundraiser, for the past five years. This coming fall, Joelle plans to attend Pierce Community College, where she will pursue her interests in journalism and archeology

Mandie Axtman enrolled in Academy Northwest for her senior year. She has worked hard all year as an assistant at a bookkeeping firm in Sultan.

Graduates

Joseph Barnhart is a Nez Perce native. He is a gifted performer of native cultural dance and from childhood has been a gifted storyteller. He has been employed at Tillicum Village for the last few years where he performs, as well as works in many departments of the Cultural Arts Center. Joe has developed his entrepreneurial skills both at Tillicum and by working in his father's coffee shop. Traveling throughout the United States, he has participated with his father in many native wellness conferences. He is also involved with Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and is committed to seeing his people walk in wellness. Joe plans to go to college, and those who know him see his strong character and expect he will be a leader of his people.

Anthony Baxter has attended Academy Northwest since tenth grade and took a leadership role this year by assistant-teaching a science class. He enjoys scuba diving and driving Hornet racecars at Evergreen Speedway. Anthony plans to attend Cascadia Community College before transferring to a four-year college to complete his education before finding work in the computer industry.

Brandin Bednar describes himself as smart, nice, and intellectual. He enjoys racing motocross, recreational outdoor activities, snowboarding, surfing, and diving. Currently he attends the Divers Institute of Technology and plans to work in the diving industry, travel the world, and live in Costa Rica.

Aaron Beisel is so happy to be graduating! School has not been his favorite thing, but he has made the best of it and finished well. Sports have been much more to his liking, and Aaron has spent his high school career playing baseball and tennis for Monroe High School. He is an avid skier (progressing to back-flips in the Terrain Park this year) and enjoys golfing and pick-up basketball games. Aaron also enjoys cars and all things mechanical; he and his dad have recently finished getting his 1990 Nissan 300ZX ready for the road. Bright red with a T-top, it's a beauty! Aaron looks forward to returning to two favorite Mexico destinations this summer—Northern Mexico for ministry and missions and Cabo San Lucas for fun and recreation. Aaron knows the Lord has special plans for him, and this fall, those plans include becoming a proud member of the United States Coast Guard.

Daniel Boone lists his hobbies as working on chainsaws, trucks, heavy equipment, hiking, and off-roading. He is especially gifted when it comes to fixing internal combustion engines. In addition to his travels to Hawaii and just about everywhere else, Daniel has sold Stihl & Husky Pro saws on Ebay, as well as firewood. He does not plan to attend college, but wants to work, most likely in the forestry industry. Eventually Daniel wants to start his own excavating business.

Amy Brannan has attended the Lewis County Learning Center for four-years and has enjoyed the fun field trips, making great friends, and her teacher's loving guidance and Godly example. She lives and works on the family farm, helping to milk the cows, raise the calves and drive the tractor. In her spare time, Amy reads, listens to music, watches movies, and hangs out with her friends. Her favorite pet is a cat named Russia. This fall she plans to attend South Puget Sound Community College to take the culinary arts program where she will prepare for a career as a chef.

Brittany Braun has been attending Jackson High School as well as Academy Northwest and has enjoyed the classes taken at both schools. She has been accepted to FIDM, a Fashion Institute Design Merchandising school in California and will begin classes in the fall. Brittany's goal is to become a clothing buyer for a high fashion company.

Tyler Brown really enjoys snowboarding with all his friends. There is just something about it that makes him forget everything else going on. He plays drums in his youth group's worship band every week and thinks it would be really great to start up his own band, but he is still looking for the right people. In 2001 and 2003 Tyler went on mission trips to Mexico and Vancouver. This summer he plans to go on another mission trip to South Africa.

Andrew Buff works at the Poulsbo Taco Time, likes playing sports, playing video games, hanging out with friends, and girls. Andrew is glad that high school is over and is looking forward to enlisting in the Army.

James Bundy can be described by three words—snowboarding, golf and Sarah (not necessarily in that order). These are his three "passions" in life, along with playing the drums for the youth worship team at church and holding down two part-time jobs. He has played golf with the Washington State Jr. Golf Association for three years and on Monroe High School's varsity golf team for the last three years. When the snow arrives, you will find him up at Stevens Pass or any other ski resort he can find, at least one day a week, (or 2 or 3 days a week, if time allows). James has had the opportunity to serve on a short-term mission to Mexico and will be returning for a 10-day trip this summer. He plans to attend community college this next year and is looking toward a degree in golf course management (unless God has other plans).

Laura Buse is involved in horse 4-H, youth group, and the Lake Stevens Rowing Club. This spring season she has put in over one hundred hours of conditioning and rowing for her team. Laura loves children, and they absolutely love her back; often she is found holding someone's baby or toddler. This has been a life-long love, for when she was 23 months old she had her baby sister out of her bassinette three times during the first week after her birth. Laura is an excellent cook who keeps her dad supplied with goodies, loves to work with her hands, and is not afraid of using a chain saw or axe to cut wood for the family wood pile. She has been on two inner-city mission trips to Vancouver B.C. and spent two weeks in Santiago, Chile finishing a bathroom, painting a church, and teaching VBS to the local Chilean children.

Michael Butler moved during the summer of 1999 to his grandparents'farm. That fall he also began attending Loren & Linda Krenelka's junior high program, and in the fall of 2000 he enrolled in Academy Northwest. Michael has enjoyed his high school years even though his activities have remained the same throughout: schoolwork, basketball, schoolwork, skiing, friends, schoolwork, some more basketball, schoolwork, trip to Hawaii and various other locations, and more schoolwork. He is attending the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. As the new challenges of college lay ahead, he is a bit nervous, but mostly excited. Most importantly, Michael thanks his grandparents, teachers, family, friends and all others who have taken part in shaping his life and character.

Rachel Buxton enjoys rock climbing and is an avid outdoor photographer. She is currently working in the climbing department at REI. Rachel plans to attend college to study fire science.

Jesse Campbell snowboards in the winter, and does just about anything outdoors in the summer. He plans to travel the countryside of Europe and after that, finish his Associate of Arts degree with Seattle Central Community College or possibly attend a technical school.

Whitney Carberry has been a student at Academy Northwest for only her senior year. She wants to go into the medical field to be a nurse in pediatrics. Whitney loves working with kids, and working with babies is what she feels she would be good at. Whatever she does, she is going to bring her friends, family and boyfriend along and she hopes to live a great life with them all.

Christopher Chambers ' interests include cars, racing, surfing, snowboarding, and many other sports. After high school he plans to attend trade school or possibly enlist in the military to become a law enforcement officer. Christopher gives special thanks to his grandparents and parents for pushing him so that he could achieve his goals.

Vladimir Chesnokov began school at Marysville Elementary. He liked going to school, but had trouble with the English language. In high school,l Vladimir skipped classes and had trouble with homework because he didn't understand how to do the assignments. Then, his cousin told him about Academy Northwest. Vladimir loves his teacher and thinks he has really learned a lot from her. He wants to study more about Jesus Christ, and is working hard to improve his language and writing skills. After graduation Vladimir would like to go into the field of medicine to help people with their hurts, and to minister to them about Jesus.

Galina Chesnokova was born in Russia and came to America in 1992, where she began her school career. When she started high school,l one of her cousins told her about Academy Northwest. She decided to enroll because she could study the Bible and work at her own pace while completing high school credits. When Galina graduates, she hopes to move out on her own and work as a receptionist while studying to become a nurse. She would like to become a nurse because she can help people while telling them about God.

Mike Clark likes skateboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking, unicycling, running, grunge/indie, and anything produced by SUB POP. He attended Academy Northwest because it allowed him to enjoy his interests and to work as an assistant manager at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, where he has worked since February 2001. He appears in the DVD UNIVERsE2, an extreme unicycling video. Mike plans to attend Lake Washington Technical College, where he will study welding and machining.

Stefan Coldea had several bumps along the way to graduating, but after talking things over with his parents he enrolled in Academy Northwest. He is happy to be graduating with the class of 2004.

Daniel Contra 's older brothers and sisters have graduated from Academy Northwest, and they thought the school was great. So does Daniel! What he likes the most is that he is able to help his mother around the house, and if he has a question about homework, his teacher is just a phone call away. Daniel has a two-step plan. First, he will get a job in tailoring and dry cleaning. This job will help him to achieve his primary goal of learning fashion design. Daniel will miss Academy Northwest, but most of all he will miss his teacher, especially the time they laughed together, prayed together, and talked about the Word of God.

Tania Costea has enjoyed being a part of Academy Northwest. She says there is a big difference between American and Romanian schools, but she has really enjoyed being able to work at home on her schoolwork. This past year, Tania has had fun hanging out with her friends and making new friends. She is not sure what career path to follow, but at this time she is planning to further her education in the field of social service.

Jason CoultPicture is a Christian with an avid belief in the relevance of God's Word. His hobbies include reading, music, skiing, paint-balling, dirt biking, video games, and spending time with friends and loved ones. He has a deeply engrained appreciation for good food and deep sleep. Jason enjoys serving as a barista and playing on the worship teams at his church. At age four, he started classical Suzuki piano lessons and continues to pursue music today with performance, recording, and teaching. During high school, Jason maintained a 3.99 GPA and participated in Running Start. This fall, Jason will attend Seattle Pacific University, for which he has received a $40,000 scholarship. This was based on his piano skills and a SAT score of 1420. His long-term goals are to have a job that he loves, to continue voicing his opinions and views through whatever means possible, and to grow in the Lord throughout his life.

Alexandra Crisan recently immigrated to the United States from Romania where she spent the first 18 years of her life. Her favorite subjects in Romania were geography, psychology, and sports. Although she was raised in a Christian home, this did not automatically make her a Christian; in 2003 she was baptized and can now know that no matter what, she has someone watching over her. Alexandra hopes that she can be married, have a job, and go to school all at the same time. For now, those plans seem to be ahead of her, but Alexandra knows that with God's help all things are possible.

Brieanna Cunnington chose Academy Northwest because it allows more time to work. She is a receptionist at both a dental office and a gym and plans to attend Bryman College to become a dental hygienist.

Sean Curran plans to move to Arizona right after graduation. He is not sure not sure what he wants to do, but knows that he wants to live there.
