Matthew Kanters is an avid electric and acoustic guitar player, and an ardent player of ultimate
frisbee, hackey sack, and skateboarding who hopes to travel to Jamaica to
visit Bob Marley's town and grave. In 2001 he competed in the cross country
State Championships, placing in the top 30 of his age group. Matt is currently
working at a local restaurant and was recently promoted to an assistant management
position. In the fall, he plans to attend the Divers Institute of Technology.

Shanna Kelley has always loved animals and thinks that they are very important to have in
your life. Animals cannot always help themselves, so when she was young she
vowed to make this world a better place for them. Shanna is planning to attend
Pierce College to become a veterinary technician and eventually go to Washington
State University to become a veterinarian so that she can open a low-cost
animal hospital.

Nicholas Krona is a fun-loving, carefree guy and a self-described computer nerd who enjoys
snow boarding, playing chess, and working with children. His plan for the
near future is to enroll in one of Pierce College's computer programs, such
as A+, or some of the other computer programming classes offered by the college.

Brenda Lashbrooke likes hanging out and playing pool. This summer she plans to work and save
up for a vacation to a location where it doesn't rain, and then it is off
to college.

Cameron Lawrence is another Suquamish Native whose hobbies include working on his cars. He
enjoys the challenge of searching Ebay for parts and accessories for them,
and loves the idea of developing his own concept car. He also enjoys basketball
and video games. Cameron believes the Tribal Canoe Journey is a cultural activity
that is important to him as a Native American, bringing back the traditions
of his ancestors. He is unsure about his plans for the future because he feels
there are so many opportunities. He is already employed at the Clearwater
Casino as a Blackjack dealer and worked the graveyard shift while finishing
his senior year. Try taking that exit math exam and writing that 12-page research
paper after being up working all night long! He did it, and Cameron will keep
on doing whatever it takes to soar in life, like an eagle.

Bogdan Lazau says that he is pretty much a normal sixteen year-old with a pretty normal
family. When he first enrolled, he was only interested in finishing high school
early, and going to school once a week. In the intervening three years since
Bogdan began attending Academy Northwest, he has had plenty of time to change
his outlook towards education. He now realizes that he needs to continue his
education to get anywhere in life. With this new goal in mind, Bogdan plans
to train in computer technology.

Georgina Low attended Jackson High School, where she is still captain of the dance team,
before enrolling in Academy Northwest. In the fall she plans to attend Everett
Community College.

Emanuel Lucescu benefited from attending Academy Northwest where he could study at his own
pace and earn his high school diploma while working. His current educational
plans are to attend a community college to study construction.

Jose Martinez is both Suquamish and Cuban, and he brings the richness of those two cultures
to every area of his life. He is both rhythm and soul. He is in a rap group
with his brothers, and has been known to rock the house. People have said
of Jose's words that they are like "wind and water" and they speak to the
spirit. It's believed by his friends that if he should choose to pursue music
as a career we will all remember his name. Jose is devoted to his family
and has a servant's heart. He supports them in their fishing business, and
is very knowledgeable in all aspects of that work. He plans to go on to college,
and he has said he would "love to protect and serve his country."

Stephen Massey is a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and loves flying, hunting, fishing, football,
baseball, hanging out with friends, and, of course, Fords. He has been to
India, North Korea, and Panama on mission trips. Stephen plans to attend one
year at the local community college before transferring to Texas Christian
University to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree before pursuing a career in
the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot.

Andy Mathews is currently employed with McKinley Electric in Kingston. He enjoys his work
and plans to obtain his journeyman's license after acquiring the required
number of hours. In the fall, Andy will attend Olympic Junior College to explore
general courses to see what stirs an interest. Along with socializing with
his many friends, Andy has always enjoyed the outdoors"camping, fishing and
boating.

Joey Mayorkinos ' favorite life activity is being in the great outdoors. He enjoys primitive
camping, hunting, and fishing. He is a good marksman and practices at indoor
and outdoor ranges. When camping, Joey brings his ATV "quad" to spend hours
riding through the wilderness.

Peggy McClendon chose to attend Academy Northwest where she could study independently with
fewer distractions. She enjoys photography and plans to attend a community
college after graduation. While Peggy has no solid plans for the future, at
this time she is interested in pursuing a career in psychology.

Rebecca Meadors enjoys reading, crafts, and traveling. In 2002 she was a foreign exchange
student in Italy, and she plans to visit Australia, New Zealand and every
European country she can. In the fal,l Rebecca will attend Port Townsend School
of Massage with the goal of becoming a massage therapist, and later a physical
therapist. She is very excited about graduating because she came from being
behind in her studies to graduating with honors. Academy Northwest has been
a wonderful experience, and she wouldn't trade it for the world.

Benjamin Micu enrolled in the Youth Ambassador program when attending school in Battle Ground.
During that time, he participated in community service and met many business
owners. Throughout high school he has attended Academy Northwest and considers
it a blessing. His future goal is to earn an MBA and own a hotel business.
Ben says it has been a great experience to have a teacher who loves to teach
and who motivates him to learn and reach for his goals in life. In his prayers
he thanks God for Penny, the woman that gives up her time for him. Thank you,

Simona Mihaiuc likes reading, cooking, roller-blading, ice-skating, hiking, and talking on
the phone with her friends. She is a very good listener who also enjoys gardening,
vacationing, and spending time with family and friends. Simona also attends
various organized activities with her friends from church. She plans to attend
a 2-year college to complete studies that will help her obtain a job in the
medical field.

Alena Mikhno has been considering options for her future career. At first, becoming a Christian
family and marriage counselor sounded interesting, but then Alena realized
it takes a long time to earn a Master's degree, and the income potential is
not great. So, yielding to pragmatism, she is considering marketing as her
choice of career.

Madalyn Miller decided to attend Academy Northwest because it allowed her to work at her
own pace and skip the eighth grade, which was very important to an impatient
person like Madalyn. Her short-term goal is to finish her Associate of Arts
degree before turning 18, which she will accomplish with the help of the Running
Start program. A longer-term goal is to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in
business and open her own salon. Madalyn wants to help cancer patients and
people with alopecia to look better, because when you look better, you feel
better. In addition to her academic goals, Madalyn likes to learn about other
cultures and would love to go on a mission trip to some remote place and witness
to people who have never heard the word of God.

Stephanie Moore began playing golf in 1998. She started traveling to compete in national
tournaments two years ago and played in over 24 tournaments this past year
alone. She feels very blessed to have traveled around the U.S. doing what she
loves. She has also enjoyed playing classical piano for the past ten years.
She received a full athletic scholarship to Northern Arizona University and
plans to major in ecomomics. Stephanie wants to thank her Mom, Dad, family and friends
for their never-ending support and encouragement.

Ray Muehlman creates hi-hop music on his computer, is a traditional DJ (manipulating the
wheels of steel turntables), and enjoys personalizing his computer to better
produce audio. He is currently recording an album with a great vocalist who
is also his very good friend. Ray is ready to continue on to the higher education
of Evergreen State College in Olympia where he intends to study music, computer
technology, and philosophy. He is anticipating attending Evergreen because
it is the most amiable college that he has discovered, and the school's philosophy
suits his personality perfectly. Ray couldn't hope for a better place to continue
learning about music because the school has an astounding music production
lab, not to mention the beautiful, expansive, forested campus.

Danny Mullen 's hobbies are music, skating, and partying with friends. He has also taken
trips to Mexico and Jamaica. Danny would like to major in music theory, minor
in art, and become a successful drummer.

Tyler Nelson is a creative, artistic person. He enjoys reading, writing, many forms of
visual art, and drumming for a funk-fusion rock band. He likes to spend his
free time in the solitude of nature, backpacking, skiing and windsurfing.
He has spent his last three summers as a windsurfing instructor, and this
last winter as a ski racing coach. He is just starting to learn to put his
creativity into carpentry and woodwork, and will spend the next year developing
skills in this area.

Kevin Nelson is a four-year Academy Northwest student. He enjoys snow skiing, water skiing,
golfing, and mostly spending time with family and friends. Next year, Kevin
plans to attend Seattle Pacific University, where he was honored to receive
their Trustee's Scholar Award for academic achievement. His long-term goal
is to attend law school, focusing on corporate business law. He is willing
to go wherever God leads him, but hopes he is led on a path, which will eventually
place him in a Bentley Continental GT.

Adam Newcomb enjoyed working at his own pace without outside distractions while enrolled
in Academy Northwest. He has not chosen a field of study or occupation, but
he does trust in a Savior who he can count on for anything he needs.

Loredana Nistor chose Academy Northwest so that she would have more time to study and complete
schoolwork. She has enjoyed the one-on-one time with her teacher because she
could ask as many questions as necessary to thoroughly understand her studies.
Loredana wants to attend college to major in psychology.

Amanda Nygard enjoys shopping, being with her friends, and having fun. She is also very
involved with her church youth group and loves attending church. In the fall
Amanda plans to attend the Art Institute of Seattle to pursue a career in
fashion marketing.

Michelle Olbrich floundered academically through middle school and her freshman year. Then,
at the beginning of her sophomore year, she challenged herself to raise her
grade point and become a positive, life-affirming person. Michelle surprised
herself by discovering the strength to change, and discovered that she was
really worth it. For now, she plans to live one day, one hour, one moment
at a time. She loves to love, write, dress up, and make people laugh. Keeping
her faith in life is what it is all about for Michelle.

Kjell Overgaard 's main hobby and talent is the electric guitar, which he has played for five
years. He is currently studying the style of "Progressive Metal." His tentative
plans are to continue working full time at his job at Safeway until the fall
when he begins classes at Edmonds Community College. After obtaining an Associate
of Arts degree in music, he hopes to attend Cornish College of the Arts in
Seattle. Kjell's long-term goal is to be a studio musician, even though becoming
a musician in a serious Christian band would be ideal, but also, unreliable.
