1 Corinthians 13:13
But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.
(The Message)

Shawna Palmer moved from California two years ago and began school with Academy Northwest.
Homeschooling provided Shawna with the freedom and flexibility to visit family
in California and travel to Mexico and Hawaii. Last summer, Shawna traveled
to Tuba City, Arizona as part of a mission to a new church on the Navajo Indian
Reservation. This great experience consisted of helping with the church's
construction projects, roofing a house and building a porch for an elderly
lady, and gathering free wood for the community. Her favorite activities are
going to Kane Hodder shows, creating scrapbooks, traveling, and visiting old
friends in Utah. After graduating, she will be moving to Utah temporarily
to work and be with friends, and then it's back to sunny California.

Emily Parsons has been a gymnast longer than a student. When not in the gym, she enjoys
shopping and having fun like most normal teens. Her enrollment in Academy
Northwest has enabled her to travel around the country during competitive
seasons of gymnastics. Being a competitive gymnast involves long hours of
practice, but Emily has not been alone in that process. God, her parents,
coaches, friends, physical therapists, doctors, and trainers have all helped
her stay motivated to do her best and work through every hard situation, including
a torn right Achilles tendon in the summer of 2002. As devastating as that
seemed at the time, less than a year later she completed her best season ever,
winning state, regional, and national championships. This fall Emily will
attend the University of Nebraska on a full gymnastics scholarship and a New
Nebraskan Academic scholarship—which should save the athletic department a
little bit of money.

Erick Peirson doesn't have a lot of time to spend on hobbies between school, eating, and
sleeping. However, he has managed to fit a few things into his twisted schedule.
He plays both the guitar and the electric bass, a bit of piano, and a mean
radio, and co-founded the experimental weirdness band "The Amazing Coelacanth."
He currently owns and operates a Linux-based web server and is in the process
of constructing a Beowulf super-computer using obsolete PCs. He also writes
for a local church newsletter, and contributes to various other media-related
projects. During the summer he hopes to land an internship with a local newspaper
or magazine to keep his skills honed, and to keep his pockets from imploding.
The current plan is to take a year off between high school and college, partly
because he is exhausted, and partly because he is a bit young to do the college
thing right away. He is, however, considering getting involved with YWAM overseas.

her, even though she assigned a lot of homework at times.

Kellsie Rasler choseAcademy Northwest because she wanted to graduate from high school because
a diploma will give her more opportunities in the future. She was not able
to graduate from public schoolsince she was ill and missed too much school
in her senior year. She did not want to return because she felt too old, and
she did not learn well there. She feels she learns better if she can concentrate
in her own way, and home school allowed her to work one-on-one with her teacher
and do homework at her own pace. She believes Academy Northwest really works
well for someone like her with learning problems.

Tanya Shavlovsky came to America at the age of two via Austria, Belgium, and a three-month
pit stop in Rome while waiting for permission to proceed. She enrolled in
Academy Northwest, in part, so that she could help out in her father's café.
While there are some things about public school that she misses, there are
also highlights to her current educational path—such as graduating early,
and being able to focus more on God and the way she should be living.
