Requirements Beyond the Minimum

The Board of Family Academy has determined that there are areas of student development the minimum state mandated graduation requirements do not address. To address this, two courses unique to the Family Academy Program, are required of graduates—Life Practicum, and Biblical Worldview.

The Life Practicum course includes topics considered critical for transitioning successfully to adult living. These topics concentrate on relationship, intrapersonal, money, and time/life management skills.

The Biblical Worldview course includes topics critical to understanding the world from a Christian perspective. The years between ages 15-25 have been called the "critical decade." In order to prepare students for this time when many of the key decisions of their lives will be made, all Family Academy enrolled students must take a Biblical Worldview course. The course goal is to provide them with key principles for their lives. One of the components of this course is attending Worldview Academy.

Course instruction provides college prep as well as general education studies.

Through the Family Academy program, students complete a course of study that covers the typical graduation requirements, yet allows more time to pursue specific interests for credit. By working with a teacher affiliated with our private school extension program, Academy Northwest, students are able to earn a high school diploma. The student, parent, and Family Academy teacher create a program using a course contract method. This blends the academic requirements with the student’s learning needs and interests.
